WASTEWATER TREATMENT FOR RESIDENTIAL AND HORTICULTURAL BENEFITS
In 1999, Hutt City Council awarded Hutt Valley Water Services, a subsidiary of OMI Beca and SUEZ Australia, a 20-year contract to design, build and operate this 53MLD wastewater treatment plant serving more than 140,000 residents as well as a substantial number of industries in the area. The contract also includes the maintenance and operation of the trunk waste water network.
The plant, at Seaview in Lower Hutt, was completed in early 2002 and drew international praise for the innovative design-build approach to planning and construction.
The reliable 53MLD wastewater treatment plant includes 102km of gravity and rising main network pipework as well as 19 pumping stations.
Integral to the plant is a thermal drying facility, the largest drum dryer in New Zealand, which dries all the dewatered blended sludge into a pathogen free granulised product suitable for horticulture application.
SUEZ has been successfully operating the efficient and cost-effective plant since 2002. This state-of-the-art wastewater solution meets the local community’s current and future needs.
